This is the newsstand in WHSmith. The magazines are arranged
so that you are able to see the mastheads of the magazine. For example for ‘Q’
magazine only the upper third of the magazine is showing alongside an image,
this is common with a lot of the magazines as you are able to see the masthead
and an image. This allows the customers to get a brief idea of the look at the
magazine. In addition to this the magazines further at the back have skylines
as you aren’t able to see a clear image for them so you get the key/important
information at the top which with also grab the audience’s attention. Also bold
colours such as red help the magazines to stand out and draws your attention to
it which is good as it will stand out more than other magazines.
There are many ways to distribute magazines to target
audience, such as subscription post which is where the target audience get a
weekly or monthly magazine sent to them as they have signed up to get the
magazines sent to them. Also you are able to distribute online which is a
cheaper way to distribute a magazine as you don’t have to pay for the printing
costs and having to get it into shops and supermarkets. Music magazine also
promote themselves via social networks such as FB groups and twitter pages,
which means that they are open to a wider audience and are able grab a lot more
people’s attention. In addition to this they also use radio stations and TV
content to also get there brand more known.
