progress
Today in lesson i started to make my flat plan for my magazine so that it would be easier for me to make my contents page and will make it more realistic for my magazine. I used XXL magazine to help me get a rough idea of how my magazine should be laid out. the adverts pages will obviously not be on the contents page. i will also finish doing my flat plan in the lesson

Front cover
This is a rough idea of how my front cover is going to look. At the moment I think that I am going to keep it like this but might have to edjust some of the cover lines as they may cover my models face.

cASE sTUDY - vmAGAZINE
FRONT COVER
V magazine
– music magazine
A
plan natural background with a close up of Nicki Minaj so that her head is in
between the V logo. Also make up is very natural with a bright pink lipstick to
make her stand out a bit more. Also she has a serious facial expression which
makes her look slightly intimidating which could show that she has power even
though you can’t see her body language. Also it looks as if her body is side on
but her head is facing forward as if something has caught her attention. Also
there is a clash between the pink and the orange that draws in the reader’s
attention. There aren’t any props used in this shot. In addition to this the
font is consistent and so is the colour of the text. The text is in also in capital letters and
bold which also draws more attention to it.
Also the side caption ‘the birth of a star…’
also wants the reader to find out more information about Nicki Minaj and what
she’s about. The fact that there isn’t a lot on the cover draws more attention
to Nicki Minaj’s face. 79% of their readers are over 21 and 60% of their
readers are females which means it’s a female based magazine. The average
income of the readers is $95,000 individually. The publisher of the magazine is
Stephen Gan
and the publisher is Patrick Ian Hartley.
DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD
The image on the double page
spread is completely different from the front cover the only similarity is that
the background is the same which is a clear grey background. The shot is a
medium shot which is showing most of her body. A prop that is used is a stand
which she is leaning on. Also she looks a bit like a warrior from her face
paint but her dress makes her look a bit classier. Her facial expression is
seductive and still looks quiet powerful in this shot. In addition to this
there is a whole page dedicated to Nick Minaj so that the attention is drawn to
it and made to stand out. In addition to this the clear studio background
allows the photograph of Nicki Minaj herself to stand out as she is in bright,
bold, colourful colours herself.
Contents Page
The contents page shows a medium
shot of Kanye west were it looks as if he is looking straight into your eyes,
which makes the shot more effective. Also the page has a common colour scheme
of grey other than the red heart which is in a bold bright red which stands
out. This is quite effective as it makes the reader of the magazine think about
why that’s the highlight of the shot and wonder if this is the reason why he
has this somewhat gloomy expression on his face. This makes the reader want to
read into the DPS of the magazine and find out more.
audience feedback on proposal of magazine
Audience feedback
Likes - My peers like the idea of my genres of music as nobody had thought about combining these two genres together (grime and house music). Also they liked my colour scheme which was blue, grey and black which they thought would be successful in catching the attention of my chosen audience. In addition to this they liked the layout of my contents and front cover and thought that it would give a good representation of a legit magazine.
Dislikes - Some people in my auidence didnt like the design of my masthead and thought that i should change it to something else. However i thought that the masthead that i chose did actually go with my genre of music and that it would attract the attention of my target audience as i had seen simular designs. In addition to this the masthead that they wanted me to use wouldn't stand out as a masthead should. In addition there was a bit of contriversy with the name of my magazine but i thought that people would be more likely to associate this with something positive rather than negative.
